Behind The Seams

Where Ideas Become Reality

From the first sketch to the pattern table, every Lusso piece begins its journey here in our Manchester Factory. Nothing is outsourced — we use the skills we've developed over the last 40 years of innovating.

Fabric First

We hand-select every fabric for each garment to ensure it performs perfectly for its purpose— before we cut a single panel.

Made in Manchester, by Us

Unlike most brands who outsource production abroad, we make every piece right here. That means better quality, faster innovation, and fair wages for our team.

Precision in Every Cut

In-house advanced CNC manufacturing gives us complete control over every detail. No corners cut (literally). No compromises.

Prototypes with Purpose

Before you wear it, we test, tweak, and refine it. Every Lusso garment is the result of relentless experimentation and perfection.

Real-World Tested

We don’t stop at the sewing machine. Every garment is tested by real riders — on real rides — to ensure it performs where it matters.

Checked, Rechecked, Perfected

Before anything leaves our Manchester Factory, it’s personally inspected by our team to guarantee Lusso quality on every ride.

From our Factory to your Door

When you buy from Lusso, you’re buying direct from the people who make your gear. That’s rare in cycling. By skipping distributors, agents, and inflated retail mark-ups, we’re able to use premium materials, obsess over the details, and deliver kit at prices that make sense.

Alteration of brace length on bib shorts.

Having a long back I took advantage of the alteration service to have longer braces. The return took longer than anticipated so I didn't have them in time for my November trip and have only just tested them out. The braces are now the correct length. However, they have been sown with raised seams on the inside. Whilst this looks good cosmetically it would have been more comfortable to have the seams on the outside or flat sown. As an experiment I took a pair of cheap planet x shorts to the local alterations shop. They managed to alter them by sowing in extra elasticated material using flat seams, so it can be done. Aside from the braces they are a very good fit, I'll need to do some more riding in them but so far the pad is doing its job. As no seems to make good quality waist shorts any longer (yes Lusso you used to make them) and no one produces adjustable bib shorts, getting alterations done is the only option for those of us of non standard body size. I'm glad you offer this option but the way it's done could be improved. Maybe you should also have a look at the way Mountain Equipment produce adjustable braces for their mountaineering trousers.

Hi Graham thanks for your feedback. Although I do agree with you that extra seams against the skin can be more irritating, we do have to concern ourselves with the balance of aesthetics vs performance when it comes to repairs. If we had repaired the garment in the same way as your local alterations shop, some of our customers would view this as a botch job with visible seams and none matched materials, whilst others wouldn't care about the aesthetics and purely look at the function. Going forward if you would like any further alterations, please narrate that you are not concerned with aesthetics and only comfort next to the skin and of course we can repair your garments in this way instead. We also offer a custom fit service where we can make you some bespoke sized garments from scratch rather than needing alterations at all, this way all panels will have minimal seams they'll just be to your measurements. We still make our pro gel waist fit shorts the same way as we have done for the last 3 decades ( now called perform gel shorts) and we've also introduced a more affordable option with the primary shorts. Your feedback is appreciated and we would rather work with you to create something you'll love wearing year after year.
Cheers
Jake
